Going My Way
(1944) – One of a couple
of films staring Bing Crosby as a parish priest, Going
My Way is a “feel good” movie that expresses the Irish
love for music, friendship, and optimism. Bing Crosby
plays a young priest with new ideas assigned to a
Catholic parish with declining contributions,
membership, and hope. His interaction with Barry
Fitzgerald, the stereotypical aging Irish priest in
charge, is timeless. A movie about accepting those
people around you, rather than about fixing a “broken”
parish, Going My Way needs to be one of can’t miss
movies on your list.
